Last year, having just emerged from the haze of mothering a child through their first year of life, I was ready to dress up for Halloween again! And after loosing most of the baby weight with my nutritarian diet, I was chomping at the bit to get back into the Halloween spirit! I’ve been an alien, the wicked witch, and Cleopatra, and this year I wanted something edgier–cause after breastfeeding Kamryn for 11 months I felt like a bit of a bad ass! During a routine, lets take the kids to the Halloween store outing I spotted a women’s military shirt and tie ensemble and I knew what I was going to be! I had done JROTC in high school and always loved military uniforms! I was going to be a War Monger (or a War General) and Kamryn was going to be a little hippie flower girl!
It was unreal how much fun I had pulling this costume together! I picked up a few military-esque patches at JoAnn’s and ironed them on to fill out my many military awards and honors! I added corresponding 3 stars to the hat (I also found at the Halloween store) and finished the look with my USA aviator glasses and, my absolute favorite prop, my faux lit cigar!
I used one of my Stella & Dot leather wrap bracelets and a $1 bracelet I found at JoAnn’s (I also used these bracelets in pink as favors at my sister’s baby shower) with $1 a piece “I <3 WAR charms” because I wanted to make sure everybody knew I was a military industrial complex war monger to the nth degree!
Needless to say I was channeling my inner General Patton all night long, and loving every minute of it! You can’t see in these pics, but I wore camouflage pants and a pair of Sorel winter duck boots I had bought for fall.
I loved the contrast of the hippie and the general and I am sure I will be dressing up as General Mom for many years to come!
Check out how we semi-handmade this toddler hippie costume!
