Nothing is scarier to a nutritarian than an upcoming national holiday. I fear them. I dread them. They totally stress me out. What am I going to eat? How am I going to handle the peer-pressure? How do I stay on the plan without offending my hosts? Yup, this is tricky. There are plenty of tactics: host the holiday yourself, eat before (this is, by far, the most ostracizing), or bring your own food. For the Fourth of July, at least, I got you covered! Weather it’s at your place or you’re headed out to celebrate, this patriotic fruit tower is going to be a real crowd-pleaser and its going to put your nutritarian-mind at ease!
Be the pillar of fruity freshness in a time of greasy BBQ; tons of chips and dip; and red, white and blue sugary cakes ! Everyone loves refreshing fruit at a summer BBQ–I guarantee it! What I love best is these are so easy to grab and go, no cutting and platting here–its beautiful and user friendly! Here’s how to do it:
First thing you’ll need is a wire cupcake stand. I found this one a Pier1 a few years back. I’ve seen similar ones as Target and Michael’s. Then, get some red, white and blue ribbon to weave through each tier. I found this flag print ribbon at my local Hobby Lobby.
Next, pick up some Chinet Cut Crystal 9 oz. cups (I found some at Target, but your local grocery store should too). You’ll also need some adhesive strips, I used Glue Dots 1″ strips. Using 2-3 glue strips attach a thin decorative ribbon of your choice around each cup.
Here’s how the stand looks all gussied up! Now all you have to do is fill it with your favorite fresh fruits and you’re good to go! You could easily use this same setup for fresh veggies with hummus or cupcakes instead!
